In Tan Ha Lam Ha Commune, Lam Dong Province, production linkages are emerging as a key driver of sustainable agricultural development.

From Individual Farming to Collective Growth

After more than a decade of cultivating organic vegetables in net houses, Nguyen Van Huy of Dan Phuong 1 Hamlet realized that small-scale farming alone could not generate lasting value. Long-term development, he believes, depends on farmers working together to improve product quality and expand market access.

With that vision, he established the Huy Ngoc Organic Agricultural Cooperative in 2022, bringing together households committed to clean farming. From only a handful of members, the cooperative now links more than a dozen farming households cultivating around seven hectares of organic vegetables.

Rather than tackling production and marketing challenges individually, members receive support throughout the production process—from seed selection and crop management to quality control and market connections. This collaborative model has encouraged more farmers to invest in organic production and meet increasingly demanding market standards.

Nguyen Van Huy discusses the organic vegetable production linkage model operated by the Huy Ngoc Organic Agricultural Cooperative.

Nguyen Van Huy said: "I initially chose organic farming to protect my own health and that of the community. After recognizing the value this model could deliver, I decided to establish the Huy Ngoc Organic Agricultural Cooperative so that more farming households could participate and help develop organic agriculture in a sustainable way."

A similar approach is taking shape in Lien Ho Hamlet, home to one of the commune's largest durian-growing areas.

Recognizing the limitations of fragmented production, 26 farming households established the Lien Ho Durian Cooperative Group. Today, more than 50 hectares of orchards are managed under standardized cultivation practices, improving productivity, product quality and consistency.

Thanks to techniques shared within the cooperative group, Nguyen Van Au's durian orchard produces uniform, high-quality fruit.

According to Nguyen Van Au, a member of the Lien Ho Durian Cooperative Group, one of the greatest benefits of the cooperative model is the regular exchange of production experience and technical knowledge along with mutual support throughout the cultivation process.

The cooperative model has also facilitated the development of standardized production areas, making it easier for members to obtain planting area codes, implement traceability systems and connect with purchasing enterprises.

Nguyen Huy Dong, head of the Lien Ho Durian Cooperative Group, said regular field meetings allow members to exchange experience, adopt new techniques and gain better access to government support policies. The cooperative group is currently completing procedures to obtain an official planting area code, which is expected to help standardize production, improve product quality and expand access to stable markets.

Joining the cooperative group not only enables members to regularly exchange experience and share cultivation techniques but also creates better opportunities for farmers to access local support policies.

Collective Economy Expands Development Opportunities

Experience in Tan Ha Lam Ha demonstrates that cooperative groups and agricultural cooperatives are gradually overcoming the limitations of fragmented farming. Farmers are increasingly adopting VietGAP, GlobalGAP and organic production standards while developing concentrated production zones linked to agricultural value chains.

To promote the collective economy, local authorities have expanded support for establishing and improving cooperative models. The commune currently has 19 agricultural cooperatives.

Many agricultural products from Tan Ha Lam Ha Commune have earned OCOP certification.

According to Nguyen Minh Toan, Vice Chairman of the Tan Ha Lam Ha Commune People's Committee, cooperatives have become a driving force not only for improving production efficiency but also for developing OCOP-certified products. The commune now has 25 OCOP products, helping raise the value of local agricultural products while strengthening their reputation in the market.

The collective economy is a key solution for enhancing the value of local agricultural products. In the coming period, the commune will continue supporting cooperative groups and cooperatives in expanding production linkages, developing raw material areas, promoting OCOP products, and strengthening market connections.

Effective production linkages have demonstrated that the collective economy provides farmers with stable incomes while supporting the development of green, modern and sustainable agriculture. These cooperative models are also laying a solid foundation for Tan Ha Lam Ha's agricultural products to enhance their competitiveness and gain access to broader markets.
