Race Against Time to Complete DT.722 Highway Linking Lam Dong and Dak Lak

In the final days of June, construction activities are moving at full speed along the DT.722 road project connecting Lam Dong and Dak Lak provinces, as contractors race to complete the remaining works ahead of the scheduled technical opening.

DT.722 Highway Targets Technical Opening on June 30

These days, the atmosphere along the nearly 19-kilometer DT.722 route remains bustling from early morning until late afternoon. On sections where the roadbed and pavement have already been completed, workers are busy reinforcing road shoulders, finishing drainage systems, and installing guardrails and traffic signs.

At other locations, construction teams are accelerating the final stages of work in preparation for the project's technical opening.

The sounds of rollers, excavators, and material transport vehicles echo continuously through the northern mountainous areas of Lam Dong, creating a vibrant atmosphere of labor and determination on the construction site. After nearly two years of construction, the route is gradually taking shape as a modern transportation corridor, promising improved connectivity between Lam Dong and Dak Lak.

According to Project Management Unit No. 1, contractors have essentially completed the roadbed, crushed stone base, and asphalt pavement along the entire 18.86-kilometer route. Three bridges located at Km3, Km7, and Km9 have also been substantially completed.

Supporting works, including retaining walls, culverts, drainage systems, slope protection structures, and traffic safety facilities, are being expedited to ensure synchronized completion.

Nguyen Xuan Thanh, Head of the Construction Management Board, said the contractor is currently mobilizing maximum manpower and equipment while deploying multiple construction teams simultaneously along the route.

The major components of the project have been completed. We are now focusing on finishing the remaining works, including shoulder reinforcement, slope stabilization, installation of traffic signs, guardrails, delineator posts, kilometer markers, and road markings. All technical staff remain on-site to closely monitor quality and progress, determined to ensure conditions for the technical opening on June 30 as scheduled,” Thanh said.

On June 24–25, we will complete asphalt paving along the entire DT.722 route and strive to achieve technical opening target by June 30.

Along the newly formed roadway, groups of workers are carefully installing directional signs, warning signs, and protective guardrail systems. On many completed asphalt sections, crews are painting centerlines, edge lines, and lane markings in accordance with technical standards.

In addition to the road surface, drainage facilities such as side ditches, water channels, and retaining structures are also being completed in parallel. These works play a crucial role in protecting the road foundation, particularly as the Central Highlands enters the peak rainy season.

According to the investor, the project has reached approximately VND 512 billion in completed construction value, equivalent to 97.37% of the total construction contract value. Overall progress is largely on schedule.

Ensuring Road Safety Ahead of the Rainy Season

One of the biggest challenges facing the DT.722 project has been the complex terrain and geological conditions. The route traverses mountainous areas, requiring deep excavation into hillsides and creating high cut slopes along many sections.

Throughout construction, the investor and contractor have implemented various engineering solutions to stabilize slopes, including soil anchors, reinforced concrete frames, protective panels, and surface drainage systems. To date, slope stabilization works within the design scope have been largely completed.

However, according to technical assessments, several sections of the route are situated on relatively weak geological formations consisting mainly of weathered soil and fractured rock, posing potential landslide risks during prolonged heavy rainfall.

Some high slopes along the route will continue to require monitoring during operation. This issue has become a key concern for authorities as the 2026 rainy season approaches.

Tran Van Hiep, Deputy Director of Project Management Unit No. 1, said that since the beginning of the year, the investor has continuously directed contractors to mobilize manpower, equipment, and materials to accelerate construction and ensure completion on schedule.

The contractor has made significant efforts by increasing work shifts and mobilizing additional resources to complete the final items. We are working closely with relevant departments and agencies to review areas at risk of landslides and propose long-term solutions to ensure safety once the project becomes operational.

According to Tran Van Hiep, given the presence of numerous high cut slopes and relatively weak soil and rock conditions in some areas, authorities are considering proposals for additional funding to further reinforce vulnerable locations.

These measures are intended to strengthen landslide resistance and ensure traffic safety amid increasingly unpredictable weather conditions.

Our priority is not only to complete the project on schedule but also to ensure absolute operational safety. Reviewing, assessing, and implementing additional slope reinforcement measures will help minimize landslide risks during the rainy season, protect the infrastructure, and safeguard road users,” Hiep emphasized.

With a total investment of VND 600 billion, DT.722 is a strategically important transportation project that strengthens connectivity between Lam Dong and Dak Lak while contributing to the completion of the regional transport network across the Central Highlands.

Once operational, the route is expected to reduce travel times, facilitate the movement of goods, promote socio-economic development, and expand regional linkages among localities.

As the deadline approaches, the sense of urgency on the construction site remains at its peak. Every meter of road completed, every traffic sign installed, and every stabilized slope reflects the determination of both the investor and contractor to bring the project to completion on schedule.

The technical opening scheduled for June 30 is drawing near, raising expectations for a new, safe, and modern transportation corridor connecting Lam Dong and Dak Lak.
