Reducing Plastic Waste Through Small Actions
Through responsible business practices, several cafés and retail stores in Lam Dong’s coastal area are helping spread environmental awareness and gradually reduce waste, particularly single-use plastic.

At Mo Hoang Café on Da Tuong Street (Phu Thuy Ward), plastic-free service has been maintained for more than 4 years. Drinks are served exclusively in glass cups with bamboo or stainless-steel straws, and takeaway service is not offered. Customers who bring their own bottles receive a discount, encouraging reusable habits and reducing waste.
According to café owner Nguyen Hai Truc, plastic straws may be cheaper and more convenient, but changing consumer awareness is essential for long-term environmental protection. “If each business and each individual makes a small change, plastic waste will decrease year by year,” she said.
Similar efforts can be seen at several fashion stores, where plastic bags have been replaced with reusable fabric bags, eco-friendly alternatives, or paper packaging. Despite initial challenges such as higher costs and customer resistance, these efforts are gradually instilling new, greener shopping habits.
While environmentally responsible businesses may encounter short-term challenges, such as increased operating costs or potential customer loss, they are paving the way toward sustainable development. Over time, such models are gaining public support and contributing to the wider adoption of a green lifestyle, starting from simple, everyday actions.
