As spring arrives across the Central Highlands and the South Central coast, wind turbines continue turning steadily, generating clean electricity and shaping a new development trajectory for Lam Dong Province. Beyond their role as energy facilities, these wind farms are becoming a key economic driver, supporting the province’s strategy for green growth and sustainable development.

At Cau Dat Tea Hill in Xuan Truong - Da Lat Ward, rows of wind turbines now stand alongside tea plantations and cherry blossoms, creating a striking blend of nature and technology. The area has gradually evolved into both a renewable energy site and a tourism attraction, illustrating how green energy can coexist with local services and livelihoods.

According to planning adjustments, two wind power projects – Xuan Truong 1 and Xuan Truong 2 – are being prepared for implementation, with a total investment exceeding VND 4.3 trillion. Each project is designed with a capacity of nearly 50 MW, expected to supplement clean power to the national grid while strengthening the economic infrastructure of Da Lat and surrounding areas.

Experts note that Lam Dong’s high elevation, stable wind patterns, and vast land resources create favorable conditions for onshore wind development. Renewable energy is therefore seen not only as an environmental solution, but also as a long-term economic pillar that helps reduce emissions, adapt to climate change, and attract investment.

Following the administrative merger of Lam Dong, Binh Thuan, and Dak Nong, the province now possesses unique geographical advantages: a large highland plateau combined with a 192-kilometer coastline and fishing grounds covering more than 52,000 square kilometers. This connection between mountains and sea opens significant opportunities for large-scale renewable energy projects, especially wind power.

Along the coastal area, major wind farms such as Tuy Phong stretch across sand dunes near the sea, with hundreds of turbines nearly 100 meters tall, forming one of Vietnam’s largest wind power hubs.

Data from the provincial Department of Industry and Trade show that Lam Dong currently has 97 renewable energy projects in operation, with a total installed capacity of over 3,887 MW, accounting for more than 47% of the province’s total power capacity. These figures confirm renewable energy as a core sector in the local economic structure.

Under the adjusted National Power Development Plan VIII, Lam Dong is allocated over 5,625 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and more than 5,532 MW for the 2031–2035 period. This framework is expected to attract strong domestic and international investment, particularly in wind, solar, and offshore wind power.

Provincial leaders have repeatedly emphasized that reducing reliance on fossil fuels will enhance energy security, environmental protection, and long-term economic sustainability. Offshore wind power has been identified as a strategic breakthrough sector, with investment targets of 2,000 MW during 2025–2030 and 2,300 MW during 2031–2035.

Once these projects come into operation, Lam Dong aims not only to meet domestic demand but also to export clean electricity and become an inter-regional hub for renewable energy industry and services.
