Through practical projects and initiatives, Military Region 7 is working alongside ethnic minority communities in Lam Dong to promote economic development and improve living conditions. Through direct support programs and activities carried out by the provincial Military Command and the Lam Dong Economic-Defense Unit, the region’s resources are gradually being translated into concrete projects and initiatives that address residents’ actual needs.

Strengthening Bonds Between Soldiers and Civilians Along the Border

Since July 2025, Military Region 7 has implemented various support activities across Lam Dong, with a focus on border areas where many ethnic minority communities live and face significant hardships.

In Quang Truc Commune, a border locality, support for the construction of 60 houses alongside border militia posts has been a notable achievement. With total funding exceeding VND 12.5 billion, the program has mobilized contributions from multiple sources. Military Region 7 provided VND 6.5 billion, while local authorities and participating households contributed the remaining VND 6 billion.

The new homes not only provide families with secure and stable housing but also give residents greater confidence to work, produce and remain connected to their border communities.

Military Region 7's support for ethnic minority communities in border areas has also continued through activities that provide guidance, support residents and help them overcome difficulties affecting their livelihoods and daily lives.

In addition, Military Region 7 has organized medical examinations, distributed medicines and donated gifts, while supporting the construction of roads, schools and other essential public facilities. These activities have helped improve living conditions and expand access to essential services for border communities, while strengthening ties between the armed forces, Party committees, local authorities and residents.

Sustained Support for Disadvantaged Communities

Beyond border areas, the sustained presence of units under Military Region 7—particularly the Lam Dong Economic-Defense Unit and the provincial Military Command—has played an important role in bringing positive changes to ethnic minority communities.

In the Northern Lam Dong economic-defense area, the Lam Dong Economic-Defense Unit carries out its mission across nearly 120,000 hectares covering six disadvantaged communes in the Dam Rong, Lam Ha and Di Linh areas. Nearly 82,000 people live in this region, with ethnic minorities accounting for approximately 57.3%. Living conditions remain difficult for a number of households.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Trong Thuy, Political Commissar of the Lam Dong Economic-Defense Unit, said that under the direction of Military Region 7, the unit had completed and handed over 117 solidarity houses built to support military personnel and civilians, assisted 68 disadvantaged ethnic minority students, constructed cultural and sports facilities, and organized dozens of medical examination and medicine distribution campaigns for local residents.

Notably, in supporting economic development, the unit does more than provide seedlings and livestock. Officers and soldiers also visit disadvantaged households to provide technical guidance and accompany residents throughout the production process.

This approach ensures that assistance responds to actual needs while enabling residents to gradually strengthen their production capacity, improve incomes and stabilize their livelihoods.

Beyond economic assistance, the Lam Dong Economic-Defense Unit also conducts activities to improve educational awareness and preserve and promote the cultural values of different ethnic groups. These efforts are an important contribution to strengthening national solidarity among communities in the province.

Colonel Nguyen Van Son, Political Commissar of the provincial Military Command, said that since 2019, agencies and units of the provincial armed forces had organized more than 2,580 group and mobile public information campaigns. They had also built and handed over 12 cultural and sports facilities serving community activities in ethnic minority areas, along with 122 houses for disadvantaged households.

Over the years, officers and soldiers have contributed more than 315,500 workdays to helping residents repair and upgrade rural roads, dredge canals, build community bridges and clean-water wells, and improve environmental sanitation.

The provincial armed forces have also provided millions of seedlings and livestock, organized hundreds of visits and free medical examination and medicine distribution programs, and donated gifts to policy-beneficiary families, people with meritorious service, poor households and others facing difficult circumstances.
