As the Lunar New Year approaches, young people in Lam Dong’s coastal area come together to organize a unique “green market” - a creative fair featuring handmade and artisanal products that attracts both residents and visitors.

Stalls showcasing products made from raw fabric attract foreign visitors.

With 26 stalls offering a diverse array of distinctive products, a cozy homestay on Nguyen Thong Street (Phu Thuy Ward, Lam Dong province) became the vibrant home of the Spring Green Market. Items on display included handicrafts, handmade goods, small gifts made from wood and fabric, and products crafted from natural materials inspired by coastal life. Most of these items were created by local young artists who embrace a positive lifestyle and promote environmental sustainability.

Ms. Nguyen Tam Duyen, owner of Baobab Fabric Blanket Shop, shared: “Joining this year’s market, I brought raw-fabric blankets with simple, charming patterns. This fabric is durable, reasonably priced, environmentally friendly, and safe for the skin. Each market gives me a chance to meet new friends and customers who share similar interests.”

In addition, several stalls showcased souvenirs made from wood, ceramics, seashells, and conch shells, all skillfully designed by young artisans. Among them, the Oc Bien stall attracted particular attention. What were once discarded shells collected during beach trips have been transformed into delicate accessories that reflect the spirit of the sea. “I hope our shell accessories will become meaningful coastal souvenirs from Phan Thiet for visitors,” the shop owner said.

Ms. Le Thi Hieu, the homestay owner and initiator of the market, explained: “This market was organized spontaneously by young people who share common interests and a passion for healthy, sustainable living. We aim to bring together local cultural identity through handmade pottery, knitting, painting, and other crafts. At the same time, we introduce environmentally friendly products, extend the life cycle of old items, and reduce resource waste. Through this, we hope to spread a green lifestyle to more young people.”

In addition to stalls from the southeastern area of the province, the market also welcomed participants from Da Lat and Ho Chi Minh City, offering secondhand books, leather wallets, boho-style handicrafts, and wool products. Beyond gifts and crafts, visitors could enjoy traditional food products such as Phan Thiet fish sauce, dried fish floss, shrimp paste, and cookies, as well as local street food, including rice paper rolls, stir-fried noodles, fresh spring rolls, and nut-based drinks.

The market also featured hands-on workshops such as pottery making, knitting, painting, and traditional calligraphy for the Lunar New Year, offering engaging experiences for visitors. Over the two-day event, special items were auctioned, and outdoor rock music performances added to the festive atmosphere.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Quan, a visitor from Ho Chi Minh City, shared:
“My family was traveling to Mui Ne for the weekend and happened to see information about the market on Facebook. The children really enjoyed making pottery for the first time. I also bought some handmade gifts for friends and relatives. The outdoor rock music performance was a pleasant surprise.”

As an annual event, the Green Market has become a familiar meeting point for young people in Phan Thiet who share creative ideas and values. Each year, the market is hosted at different locations, gradually expanding in scale and diversity. It aims to offer visitors meaningful year-end experiences, encouraging green and responsible shopping while promoting local products, and introducing traditional culture and crafts to a wider audience.
