The Sacred Colors of the National Flag on the Blue Island
On Phu Quy Island, 200 red flags with yellow stars flutter proudly along a 300-meter coastal path built by Green Summer volunteers. The project not only asserts national sovereignty at the nation’s frontier but also deepens patriotic pride among young people and the local community.

A Symbol of National Pride
The Tam Thanh seawall on Phu Quy has recently been transformed into a vibrant landmark with the “National Flag Road” project. Alongside a mural stretching over 300 meters, 200 national flags rise high in the sea breeze, blending with the blue of the ocean and sky, creating a powerful image of love for the homeland.
The project was carried out by Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and the Vietnam National Union of Students as part of the 2025 Green Summer Campaign. Hundreds of student volunteers not only erected the flags but also painted the murals that stretch from Hoi An Hamlet to Trieu Duong Hamlet.
“These flags flying on the island frontier symbolize freedom and independence. They also reflect the love and determination of young people traveling hundreds of kilometers to contribute to the homeland,” said Nguyen Thi Thom, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Secretary of the Phu Quy Youth Union.
For local residents, the flag road has become a new source of pride. Nguyen Van Thanh, head of Hoi An Hamlet, shared that people now walk more often along the seawall, exercising while admiring the national flags against the ocean backdrop.
“The sight strengthens our attachment to the homeland and our country,” he said.
A Lasting Mark of Youth
Beyond being a symbol, the National Flag Road also attracts visitors, adding a new highlight to Phu Quy as the nation commemorates the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.
During this campaign, student volunteers also implemented other meaningful projects, including installing streetlights, building a library and playgrounds, donating learning equipment, and providing community healthcare.
“Yet, the most emotional image remains the red flags soaring above Phu Quy. They represent not only national pride but also the burning patriotism of young people who dedicate their efforts to this island,” emphasized Le Duc Dat, Vice President of the Vietnam National Union of Students in Ho Chi Minh City.
