Thuong Chanh Beach revived with a splash of colour
Painted tetrapods are transforming Thuong Chanh Beach into a colourful attraction while promoting a cleaner, better-preserved coastline.

This message is also central to the "Bringing Colours (Lam Mau) community initiative at Thuong Chanh Beach in Phan Thiet Ward. The programme goes beyond painting and decorating the coastal landscape. It mobilises Youth Union members, young people and residents to collect litter and clean the beach, helping raise environmental awareness.
The initiative is part of ongoing work to develop and improve Ong Dia Rock Beach Park. The park is scheduled for completion before September 2, 2026. It is expected to provide more public space for residents and help create a new visitor attraction.
"Bringing Colours" has a purpose extending beyond beautifying the landscape. It refreshes the seafront through colour while reminding the community to treat the sea responsibly. As the area becomes cleaner, and more attractive, organisers hope awareness of protecting the landscape will also grow.
The initiative was launched by Vu Trong Thang. He said the name "Bringing Colours" is both tongue-in-cheek and an encouragement for everyone to participate. Here, it means adding colour to the seafront and giving the tetrapods a new appearance. In doing so, the project helps create a cleaner and more attractive landscape. "Bringing Colours" is a non-profit community project promoting environmental protection, coastal beautification and greater awareness of marine conservation. It also aims to create a new tourist attraction.
More than 50 volunteers have collected litter, cleaned the area and created artwork on the seawall and tetrapods in designated areas. The new colours add cultural and artistic features connected to the sea, nature and environmental protection.
The initiative also enables the community to care for shared public spaces. From volunteers doing the painting to residents and visitors passing by, everyone can make a small contribution to keeping the area clean and attractive.
Colour only matters when the ocean is clean
Beyond giving the concrete tetrapods a new coat of colour, the "Bringing Colours" initiative also seeks to clean the coastline and raise public awareness.
Ta Thao Uyen, a volunteer, said: "I find the project very meaningful because it brings more colour to the area. The vibrant paintings create an attractive feature for visitors while encouraging everyone to help keep the marine environment cleaner and more beautiful."
Nguyen Le Gia Lin, Secretary of the Phan Thiet Ward Youth Union, said the community initiative "Lam Mau - Bringing Colours to the Blue Sea, Restoring Its Natural Beauty" represents a new approach to environmental volunteering. It focuses on practical actions that make a visible impact on public spaces.
Notably, the programme brings together a wide range of participants. They include Youth Union members, young people, the Area 5 Firefighting and Rescue Team under PC07, Tran Huu Construction Consulting JSC and the Ap Art Team. Each organisation contributes to beautifying the landscape and promoting awareness of marine environmental protection.
More importantly, "Bringing Colours" could provide a model for replication in other coastal areas. Only sustained community participation can make improvements to the landscape and environment last.
Thuong Chanh has an opportunity to gain a new look as it develops into a venue for community activities, recreation and sightseeing. However, preserving this beauty requires more than colourful tetrapods. It also depends on blue waters, clean sand and a strong sense of community responsibility.
"Bringing Colours" therefore goes beyond beautifying the landscape. It contributes to creating a clean and well-maintained coastal space where everyone shares responsibility for its protection.
Colourful tetrapods may make Thuong Chanh Beach stand out, but their beauty is meaningful only when the coast remains clean and the marine environment is protected.
