Traffic Diversion and Parking Expansion to Ensure Road Safety

According to Tran Vu Thi Loan, Chairwoman of the People’s Committee of Xuan Huong – Da Lat Ward, the suspension of air travel is expected to shift tourism heavily toward road transport—particularly from nearby provinces. She emphasized the need for stronger coordination between local authorities and businesses to develop new tourism products, improve service quality, and organize cultural and sporting events to attract visitors.

A central focus is reducing traffic pressure in Da Lat’s urban core through traffic reorganization.

Nguyen Duong Trung Huu, Deputy Head of the ward’s Division of Economy, Infrastructure and Urban Affairs, said the locality currently operates 19 parking areas. To meet growing demand, authorities have proposed expanding parking infrastructure and utilizing vacant land as temporary parking zones.

Suggested sites include parking areas at Xuan Huong Park and Tran Quoc Toan Park, the Anh Sang Center project, a location opposite the Golden Imperial Da Lat Hotel, and land at Cam Ly Airport.

At the same time, traffic diversion measures are being enforced to reduce congestion. Trucks weighing between 1.5 and 3.5 tons are restricted from entering central wards during peak hours and are redirected to alternative routes such as To Hien Thanh – Tran Hung Dao and Tran Quoc Toan – Dinh Tien Hoang.

Passenger vehicles with 29 seats or more (excluding buses) are also subject to new traffic routing in the Hoa Binh area and on key central streets, including Le Dai Hanh, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Ba Thang Hai, and Phan Boi Chau.

Beyond traffic measures, authorities are stepping up efforts to improve the tourism environment. Urban beautification, sanitation, and efforts to reinforce Da Lat’s image as a welcoming destination are being prioritized to encourage longer visitor stays.

Plans are also underway to launch a 24/7 tourism hotline, enhance digital maps and information platforms, and strengthen visitor support services. Tourism businesses have introduced promotional programs, including accommodation discounts and transport services connecting Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces to Da Lat.

At the same time, Lam Dong’s tourism sector is preparing a series of cultural and sporting events to stimulate travel demand in the coming months.

Dang Duc Hiep, Standing Committee Member of the Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of Xuan Huong – Da Lat Ward, called on local authorities to improve support for both travelers and drivers amid the expected surge in road traffic. He stressed that traffic police should combine effective traffic management with a friendly, welcoming attitude to enhance visitor experience.

At a recent conference on traffic diversion, infrastructure upgrades, and tourism stimulus measures during the airport closure, delegates agreed that the situation presents an opportunity to restructure tourism toward a more sustainable model.
