Trial operation of the Intelligent Transport System on Vinh Hao- Phan Thiet Expressway
According to the Project Management Unit 7 under the Ministry of Construction, starting from January 1, the over 100-kilometer-long Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway in Lam Dong Province has put into pilot operation an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and conducted trial electronic toll collection along the entire route.

During this period, the electronic toll collection (ETC) system will detect vehicle data as they pass through toll stations without deducting any fees. The trial aims to test the equipment's data processing. In addition, the automatic weigh station system and the intelligent traffic monitoring system, with 43 camera poles installed along the entire route, are being operated to assess their completeness.
All toll stations along the route have been upgraded with multi-lane free-flow ETC technology. Drivers can pass through entry toll plazas without slowing down because there are no barriers. To ensure vehicle identification at controlled speeds, exit toll plazas are equipped with sensor technology and maintain barriers. Furthermore, the operator has built additional vehicle turnaround facilities that will be used if overloaded vehicles are identified and need to exit the expressway.
Project Management Unit 7 reported that the relevant functional units will record traffic volumes and assess the accuracy of the equipment. After the trial toll collection period, if all indicators meet the required standards, official toll collection will be implemented. The automatic weigh-station system on the expressway access roads has also been completed, helping reduce traffic accidents and ensure safety.

The 99-kilometer Phan Thiet–Dau Giay Expressway, which passes through the provinces of Dong Nai and Lam Dong, has started testing its toll collection system since January 1, 2026, in addition to the Vinh Hao–Phan Thiet Expressway. Vehicle identification, data connectivity, license plate recognition, load control, and recording cars entering and leaving the expressway at interchanges are all fully integrated into the toll system.
As part of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), 51 traffic surveillance cameras have been installed along the Phan Thiet–Dau Giay Expressway, according to the Thang Long Project Management Unit. To monitor traffic flow, guarantee road safety, and assist in addressing infractions, cameras are installed along the route and at strategic interchanges.
The operation of the two expressways, Vinh Hao–Phan Thiet and Phan Thiet–Dau Giay, which together span approximately 150 kilometers and pass through Lam Dong Province, has recently helped alleviate significant external transport bottlenecks. As a result, Lam Dong's coastal areas are now more connected to other parts of the country, especially the Southern Key Economic Region. This has generated significant momentum to leverage local advantages and potential and advance the socio -economic development of both the province and the nation.
