Vietnam to host first nighttime clay target shooting event
Glowing clay targets streaking across the night sky and shooters competing under specially designed lighting will create a first-of-its-kind spectacle at the Summer Shooting Cup, part of Sports Festival 2026, at NovaWorld Phan Thiet.

For the first time in Vietnam, a nighttime Compak Sporting competition will be held as part of the Summer Shooting Cup, one of the flagship events of Sports Festival 2026.
According to the organisers, the tournament will take place at NovaWorld Phan Thiet in Tien Thanh Ward, Lam Dong Province, bringing together experienced shooters from Vietnam's armed forces and shooting enthusiasts from across the country.
Competitors will contest three disciplines: Compak Sporting, 10m air rifle and 10m air pistol. The tournament will feature both individual and team events across A, B, C and Newbie divisions, with 12 championship trophies and 42 sets of medals up for grabs.

The addition of multiple competition divisions is designed not only to provide a platform for professional shooters but also to give newcomers the opportunity to compete.
The tournament's centrepiece will be the Compak Sporting Night Shoot for A and B division shooters. Under specially designed lighting, glowing clay targets will soar through the night, testing competitors' reflexes, visual tracking and composure while creating a striking spectacle for spectators.

Alongside the competition, a shooting experience zone will be open to visitors and first-time participants on August 1 and 2, giving the public an opportunity to try and learn about a sport that is still relatively new in Vietnam.
The tournament is being held with technical support from the Vietnam Shooting Federation, the Ho Chi Minh City Shooting Federation and the Hanoi Shooting Federation, ensuring competition operations meet professional and technical standards.

The 2025 clay target shooting tournament, held as part of Sports Festival, attracted more than 80 professional and semi-professional shooters from People's Public Security shooting clubs and other clubs across Vietnam.
Compak Sporting is a discipline that demands exceptional accuracy, quick reflexes, tactical thinking and composure in every round. The sport has grown rapidly in popularity across Vietnam in recent years. Since 2024, it has been included in the medal programme of the National Shooting Championships, with the Vietnam Shooting Federation adopting the competition rules of the International Federation of Sporting Weapons (FITASC).
