Promoting the Cultural Value of the Ao Dai

The artistic programme “Gathering and Growing”, organised by the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club - Binh Thuan, featured a series of meaningful activities. Ms. Phung Thi Thu Nga, head of the club, said: “Over the past year since its establishment, the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club - Binh Thuan has gathered more than 150 members who share a love for the ao dai in Binh Thuan.

Through this programme in Da Lat, we aim to bring together ao dai enthusiasts from Dak Nong and former Lam Dong areas, with the goal of expanding and developing into the Lam Dong Provincial Vietnam Ao Dai Cultural Association. The initiative is expected to help preserve and promote the beauty of the ao dai as a symbol of Vietnamese culture.

During the main performance night, audiences experienced a unique artistic space presented by club members. The programme went beyond entertainment, highlighting the ao dai as a cultural heritage that connects generations and carries traditional values forward. Performances featuring traditional ao dai from the northern, central and southern regions left a strong impression, showcasing the elegance and charm of Vietnam’s iconic attire.

According to the club’s leadership, its activities have consistently focused on honouring, preserving and promoting the cultural value of the ao dai. The club not only connects enthusiasts but also raises community awareness of safeguarding national cultural identity through traditional dress. In doing so, the image of the ao dai continues to spread, inspiring pride and celebrating the beauty of Vietnamese women in modern life.

In addition, the club regularly organises charitable activities, including the “Youthful Ao Dai” programme, which donates ao dai to female teachers and students in remote and disadvantaged areas.

Since its establishment, the club has distributed around 3,000 ao dai to women officers, teachers in flood-affected regions, disadvantaged students and women in need, while also mobilising support for charitable initiatives assisting flood victims.

Converging and Reaching Far in Lam Dong

Attending the programme, Dam Thi Van Anh, Chairwoman of the Women’s Union of Lam Vien - Da Lat Ward, said the model is meaningful in promoting and preserving the value of the ao dai. As the club expands, the Women’s Union will encourage members to participate actively, helping to spread appreciation for the ao dai and Vietnamese cultural values more widely within the community.

“Today’s Lam Dong is a diverse land where many ethnic groups coexist with long-standing cultural traditions. Alongside the traditional costumes of ethnic groups such as Cham, K’ho, Ma and M’nong, we hope the Vietnamese ao dai will continue to spread more widely. This will contribute to preserving and promoting ao dai heritage internationally, while enhancing Lam Dong’s appeal to investors and tourists—known for its white sand dunes, blue seas, the flower city of Da Lat, Ta Dung Lake and the Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark,” Nga added.

The Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club - Binh Thuan is the 15th branch of the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club network, tasked with bringing members together, strengthening cooperation, and promoting the cultural value of the Vietnamese ao dai.
