Whale pod spotted in Phu Quy, signaling healthy seas
A rare pod of around 100 whales was recently sighted near Phu Quy—a promising sign of pristine marine conditions and a potential boost for tourism heading into summer 2026.
A pod of around 100 whales was spotted swimming near the waters of Phu Quy Special Administrative Zone (Lam Dong Province) on April 5, creating a rare and spectacular scene.

According to local tour guide Nguyen Trong Tan, the sighting occurred while he and a group of fishermen were diving offshore. The whales were seen about 500 meters from Hon Tranh, repeatedly surfacing and leaping above the water.

Several local divers aboard the canoe entered the water for a closer look. Fishermen said it is extremely rare to encounter such a large number of whales in the area.
On the same day, Tan also reported seeing three blue whales, each estimated at around 17 meters long, swimming past the canoe.
