According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Lam Dong's total durian-growing area exceeded 44,283 hectares by 2025. Of this, nearly 22,851 hectares were in commercial production, accounting for 51.6% of the total area. Durian output reached approximately 284,287 tons, with an average yield of 12.6 tons per hectare.

In 2026, Lam Dong's total durian-growing area is projected to reach 45,550 hectares, with around 23,951 hectares in commercial production and total output expected to exceed 310,000 tons

Around 14,400 hectares of durian in the province are cultivated using high-tech farming methods, accounting for 32.5% of the total growing area. Many farms have adopted automated irrigation systems, nutrient management technology, and advanced cultivation practices, while about 300 hectares utilize smart farming technologies. Approximately 1,015 hectares have received VietGAP certification.

Durian in Lam Dong is currently purchased mainly by traders, businesses, and cooperatives directly from orchards. The fruit is then transported to packing facilities for sorting, processing, and distribution to domestic and export markets. For small-scale orchards and those located in remote areas, growers typically harvest the fruit themselves and deliver it to collection points serving the domestic market.

Lam Dong currently has 133 enterprises and cooperatives involved in durian procurement. About 85% of the province’s durian output is sold as fresh fruit, while the remaining 15% is processed into frozen and peeled durian products. The province has established 47 durian production-consumption linkages involving 1,678 farming households and covering more than 4,500 hectares.

Notably, more than 32,800 households have joined export-oriented production networks through registered growing area codes. Many partnership models between businesses and farmers have proven effective in helping stabilize market outlets for durian growers.

Conference participants noted that Lam Dong enjoys favorable climate and soil conditions for developing high-quality durian-growing regions. However, the rapid expansion of cultivation areas has created challenges in quality control, traceability, growing area code management, and brand protection.

As importing markets impose increasingly stringent requirements on traceability, food safety, and supply chain transparency, the standardization of growing area codes and packing facility codes has become essential for official agricultural exports. It is also regarded as a key tool for promoting a more professional, modern, and sustainable production system.

Delegates also noted that Lam Dong’s durian industry faces growing pressure to ensure consistent product quality on a large scale, prevent the misuse of growing area codes, and strengthen supply chain linkages to better respond to fluctuations in export markets.

At the conference, government agencies, businesses, and local authorities proposed a range of measures to improve the management of growing area codes, while enhancing the inspection and supervision of packing facilities and agricultural product testing activities.

At the same time, the application of high technology and the further development of sustainable value chains are also promoted to enhance the quality, value, and competitiveness of Lam Dong durian.
